Turn PNGs into much smaller WebP files, keeping transparency, and see the exact saving.

**Runs in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.** Your files are processed on this device and never leave it. You can even switch off your internet once the page has loaded.

Formats: PNG. This is an interactive tool: open [the page](https://trysecretgrid.com/tools/png-to-webp) in a browser to use it.

## How it works

1. Drop one or more PNG files. They're read in your browser; nothing is uploaded.
2. Set the quality. 90% looks the same as the original for most images.
3. Convert. Transparent areas stay transparent.
4. Each WebP shows how much smaller it is than the PNG. Download the ones you want.

## Questions

### How much smaller is WebP than PNG?

It depends on the image. Photos and screenshots often shrink a lot; simple graphics with few colours shrink less, and occasionally a PNG is already smaller. Each result shows the exact size either way.

### Is transparency kept?

Yes. WebP supports transparency, so transparent backgrounds stay transparent.

### Do browsers support WebP?

Yes. All current browsers display WebP, including Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Edge.

### Can I convert other formats?

Use the image converter for JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF and BMP in any direction.
